Are you a home potter struggling with thick walls, uneven bottoms, or wobbly lips? Have you been taking classes at your local studio but don't know how to proceed with your newly found love of pottery?
Then you have come to the right place. Uplevel Your Pottery Skills is five weeks of Zoom classes that will get you over whatever hump you might be currently facing, and provide you with a roadmap for the next 6 month to a year, with tangible drills and strategies to continue to improve.
Sara Young is an artist and a teacher who has been teaching pottery classes to people of all ages since 1997. She has seen it all and has the experience and insight to help you improve and create a practice that will keep yielding satisfying results for years to come.
What you will get over the course of this class:
Skill drills every week that will uplevel your throwing ability.
PDFs of tips, tricks and project ideas designed to challenge and engage you.
Support and encouragement from a community going through the same struggles, and helpful advice and troubleshooting from a teacher who has the skills and the experience to move you along your clay journey.
Class schedule:
Emails prompts on Monday and Wednesday, class on Thursday at 8 am PT all classes are recorded and provided to all participants
Week One: Challenges and Goals and the three things you can always do to improve your throwing skills including how to use your tools to their best effect
Week Two: PDFs of cross sections of common forms, how to approach shaping and trimming and the principles of design.
Week Three: Throwing large- How to get out of your own way and move more clay
Week Four: Integration week- practice what you have learned
Week Five: Designing work and practicing more of what will bring you success
Week Six: Creating a roadmap for your pottery practice
This class is designed to get you thinking about pottery in a different way. It will teach you confidence, harness your curiosity, and show you your inner craftsperson so that your pottery practice contains less frustration and more satisfaction.
